New to the B&B experience?
B&Bs are a wonderful alternative to the typical hotel and motel accommodations for a Virginia family vacation, a honeymoon, a romantic getaway, or any other occasion. We recognize that it can be intimidating to think of staying in “someone’s home,” but once you enjoy a great stay at a B&B you’ll see that it’s so much better than any other lodging options.
First-time B&B guests are often uncertain of what to expect, so we’ve tried to answer some of the most frequently asked questions, debunk some of the myths, and provide some information specific to The Inn on Poplar Hill. We are always happy to answer your questions and pride ourselves in providing outstanding customer service. Feel free to give us a call with any questions, we are happy to help.
Guests might be afraid they will feel as if they’re intruding on the Innkeepers and that they won’t have any privacy. Each B&B is set up differently, with intentions of making you feel welcome. The Inn on Poplar Hill is spacious at over 6,000 square ft., with a large living room, game room with TV and billiards, expansive gardens and walking trails, wrap around front porch, deck and patio overlooking the Koi pond, and a stocked fishing pond all on 28 acres. Our quarters are separate from these common areas. You’re encouraged to interact with other guests as much, or as little, as you choose. Each guestroom has a lock on the door and a private bathroom. You’re also given a key to the front door and your room to come and go as you wish.
Breakfast is one of the great values included in the B&B experience. New B&B guests may feel they will be dictated to as to what time they have to eat. Each B&B has different routines for breakfast. The Inn on Poplar Hill serves a cooked to order breakfast, 7 days a week from 8-10am, to allow you to eat at the time you want. Breakfast includes juice, milk, coffee, tea, fresh fruit, baked goods, and a choice of 2 main entrees each day. Many of our guests select both! Please make your hosts aware of any special dietary issues or food allergies, we are more than happy to accommodate your culinary preferences. Victoria has perfected a wide range of healthy heart, gluten or sugar free, vegan and other special recipes that are sure to please. You are welcome to join the other guests at the table, or if you prefer private dinning just let us know, we can serve you on the deck, in the game room or spoil you with breakfast in bed.

To keep our prices a good value we have choosen not to list our property with expedia, travelocity, or other internet travel sites because of the huge percentage they take. Nor will you find us offering a Groupon or Living Social coupons, because they take a 45% cut of the revenue. Some B&B’s have raised their rates and compromised the service in order to offer these one time discounts. We don’t think that is fair to our guests, and we will not compromise our service. We do offer last minute specials and many Twitter deals.
Guests are often accustomed to hotel chains where all rooms are replicas of each other. B&B guestrooms tend to have much more personality. The Inn on Poplar Hill is a unique and special historic house full of personality ready to be explored both inside and outside. The Inn on Poplar Hill is a family and pet friendly bed and breakfast. Our resident dogs and cats live with us in our quarters, they do not enter the upstairs or common areas of the Inn. Guests will only meet our dogs upon request. Guests’ pets are only welcome in the Black Walnut and Library Guests rooms. We love dogs and are happy to take your four-legged friend for a walk while you are out and about exploring the area.
Guests new to the B&B experience may be unsure of how Innkeepers will interact with them and fear they will be intrusive. At The Inn on Poplar Hill we strive to make your stay with us a wonderful experience while, at the same time, respecting your privacy. We are a great resource of information on the local area events, restaurants, shopping, and tourism opportunities. We are always available for a chat throughout the day. During your stay if you notice anything out of place to hesitate to bring it to our attention, we will take care of it right away. Inn keeping is more than just a job for us, it is a pleasure. We feel blessed to have the opportunity to bring rest and relaxation to our many guests.
